The direction and management of the CSIC's Library and Archive Network is the responsibility of the  Unit of Scientific Information Resources for Research, which reports to the Vice-presidency of Organization and Institutional Relations, with offices in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.

The main functions of this Unit are:

• Collaborate with CSIC authorities in everything related to the Institution's scientific information policies
• Provide access to scientific information resources through the Virtual Library
• Define and promote Open Access policies and Open Science promotion services
• Preserve and give access to the scientific production of CSIC through the institutional repository DIGITAL.CSIC
• Monitor compliance with the CSIC Open Access Mandate
• The management of the Open Access Support Program for CSIC Authors
• Management of support for Open Science infrastructures and services
• The automation of access to CSIC's historical archives
• The digitization of documentary heritage and the management of the SIMURG digitized collections portal
• The provision of services for the analysis of CSIC's scientific publication 
• Manage the Library Services Platform and the union catalogs of bibliographic and archival collections of the CSIC
• Regulate the provision of library services
• The management of quality policies in scientific information services
• The management of the 100% Digital Plan for CSIC centers without a face-to-face library
• Coordinate the development of bibliographic collections, the negotiation, contracting and acquisition processes
• The management of the applications and management systems of CSIC's Library and Archives Network
• The preparation of reports, statistics, analysis and reports on its activity and/or of the libraries and archives
• Professional training of library staff
• Maintain the external and internal communication channels of the Network
• The management of SURAD, the centralized document delivery service
• The management of CSIC's cooperative conservation deposit of bibliographic and hemerographic collections: GRANADO
• Represent CSIC in national and international library cooperation forums
