The CSIC, through the Unit of Scientific Information Resources for Research (URICI), offers researchers access to Turnitin’s plagiarism detection tool: iThenticate, which has been updated to version iThenticate 2.0 and migrated to a new platform available since December 12, 2025.
What is iThenticate 2.0 and what is it for?
iThenticate is a tool designed for researchers and professional authors to verify the originality of their work and detect potential overlaps with other sources.
- As an author, it helps ensure that citations and references are accurate.
- As a reviewer, it assists in identifying plagiarism or attribution issues that could harm academic reputation or lead to legal and financial consequences.
What improvements does iThenticate 2.0 include?
The new version offers advanced features that enhance document review:
- AI writing detection, to identify content generated by artificial intelligence.
- More accurate similarity reports, with automatic exclusion of preprints and customized citation handling.
- Alert panel finds hidden text and altered characters.
- Improved collaboration, allowing folder sharing with other users or groups.
- Updated and accessible interface, more intuitive and aligned with international standards.
How does it work?
iThenticate compares uploaded documents against:
- Scientific publications from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and SSH (Social Sciences and Humanities) publishers.
- High-quality academic and scientific content: journals, books, conference proceedings, theses, patents, preprints, and legal publications.
- Web pages and other online resources.
